Joanne D. Geyer

Joanne Dean (Wixon) Geyer, age 86 of Farwell, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Coleman Fields Assisted Living Facility of Coleman, MI. On December 11, 1933, Joanne was born the daughter of Albert and Hazel (Dean) Wixon in Barryton, MI. She was united in marriage to William Geyer on October 5, 1951 in Barryton, and the couple enjoyed over 67 years of marriage together until the time of William’s passing in March of 2019. Many from the Farwell area will remember Joanne’s bubbly face and personality from her many years of service as a treasurer and clerk for Surrey Township. When she wasn’t tending to her home or to township matters, Joanne could usually be found bowling, camping or enjoying women’s fellowship at the Farwell Church of Christ, where she was a faithful member. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Joanne is survived by her five children William (Margaret) Geyer of Lake, Dale (Rose) Geyer of Bay City, James (Danette) Geyer of Clare, Mary (Gail) Sowle of Farwell, and Michael (Cherie LeVesque) Geyer of Shepherd, 20 cherished grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Joanne is also survived by her siblings Terry (Gerry) Wixon of Sears, Bob (Cindy) Wixon of Farwell, and Lenna Vee (Wixon) Oyler of Clare. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband William Geyer Sr., her parents Albert and Hazel Wixon, her brother Bruce Wixon, her infant sister, Anita Louise Wixon, her oldest granddaughter, Dawn (Geyer) Jaskiewicz, her great-grandson, Gavin Iserhoth and her brother-in-law, Wally Oyler. A memorial service in honor of Joanne will take place on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Farwell Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 6:00 pm with Rich Maxwell officiating. Friends may visit with Joanne’s family on Friday from 2:00 pm until the time of service. A private family burial will follow in the Surrey Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor of Joanne may be directed towards "The Care Team" at 5401 Gateway Center, Suite D, Flint, Michigan 48507, envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
