Jean Burdo

Jean Burdo, of Bellaire, Michigan beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Mimi), great grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on June 5, 2026 at the age of 98 years young. Jean was born August 1, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Ernest and Violet (Champlain) Birney. The Birney family later moved to Saginaw, Michigan where Jean spent most of her youth and attended and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. After high school Jean began working at the Bell Telephone Company until she married Frank Daniel (“Dan”) Burdo on April 19, 1952 and moved to Clare, Michigan, where they owned the Clare Furniture Company. Dan preceded her in death on August 13, 2002. Jean and Dan had three children who survive her: James Burdo (Central Lake, Michigan), Steven Burdo (Central Lake, Michigan) and Rebecca Burdo-Steen (Bert Steen) (Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada). She is survived by five grand children: Daniel Burdo (Chelsea), Matthew Burdo (Gail), Amy Burdo (Wesley), Aleisha Kalina and Evan Kalina (Briana) and eight great grand children River, Kaia, Amalia, Emma, Ivan, Jedidiah, Thaddeus and Tekoa. Jean was preceded in death by her three beloved siblings Ernest Birney (Joyce), June Stoddard (Dallas), Thomas Birney (Virginia “Ginny”) and she has several nieces and nephews who also survive her. After her children were grown Jean worked at Clare High School and Central Michigan University. Jean was an avid reader, movie goer, and Royal Family enthusiast! A special thank you to her nieces and their husbands; Jeannie (Bob), Judy (Dermot) and Janice (Roger) and special friends Debra and Tommy Slavinski who assisted Jean to remain living in Saginaw until her move to Bellaire, in the fall of 2019, where she moved to be closer to her sons. Her family would like to thank the kind, caring and dedicated staff at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire who took such wonderful care of her in the last years of her life. Honoring Jean’s wishes there will not be a funeral service and a small family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
