Glenda Hartgrove

Glenda L. (Waddington) Hartgrove, age 88, of Clare, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home in Florida. On December 7, 1937, Glenda was born the daughter of Charles and Barbara (Quick) Rutter in Clare, Michigan—where she remained a resident her entire life. Glenda was fortunate enough to have not one, but two loves in her life. She was first married to Gilbert “Gus” Waddington, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1987. She later married Robert Hartgrove Sr., who preceded her in death on September 23, 2020. Glenda dedicated many of her earliest working years serving Clare Public Schools before later spending several years working in the insurance field, assisting many local agencies before enjoying her retirement. Glenda attended and was an active member of the Clare Church of the Nazarene and she loved spending time with her family, friends & receiving phone calls from her children. Glenda’s gift of humor, laughter, faith, loving heart, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Glenda is survived by her children: John Waddington; Jerry (Tanya) Waddington; Kimberly (David) Border; Mark (Kristin Smith) Waddington; and Kelly (Michael) Wertheimer. She is also survived by her stepchildren Robert Hartgrove, Greg Hartgrove, Teresa Grove, Julie Tomich, and Lisa Landry. She leaves behind many beloved grandchildren: Erika, Tiffany, Kala, Kadee, Danielle, Chad, Bryce, Kathryn, Michael David, Nicklas, Susan, and Hannah, as well, as eleven great grandchildren and her sister, Vivian Schumacher. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Barbara Rutter, her first husband, Gilbert Waddington and her second husband Robert Hartgrove, Sr., her siblings Jack, Albert, Lois and Elnova, her brother-in-law Jerome Schumacher, and her grandson Daniel Waddington Wertheimer. A funeral service in honor of Glenda will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tim Fall officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, the 23rd from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and again from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Glenda’s final place of rest will be alongside family in the Wise Township Cemetery of Loomis. Memorial contributions in honor of Glenda may be directed to either the Clare V.F.W or to MyMichigan Home Care and Hospice.
