Gary D. Zastrow

Gary Dean Zastrow, age 82 of Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the McLaren Bay Region Hospital of Bay City with his family by his side. On January 10, 1944, Gary was born the son of Alfred H. and Shirley J. (Cobleigh) Zastrow in Clare. Gary was a lifelong resident of Central Michigan, and a member of the Clare High School Class of 1962. Shortly after graduating, Gary proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Upon returning from his service, Gary began managing and working for the local Gulf gas stations and later started a career at Evart Products that would last for thirty years until his retirement in 2003. During the years working for Gulf, he met and fell in love with Arma Quigley. The pair was united in marriage in Harrison on August 10, 1974, and together they enjoyed fifty-one years together. When Gary wasn’t working, he could usually be found doing one of two things, enjoying the outdoors either hunting or fishing, or watching one of his favorite law enforcement shows, and he was also a very active member and Deacon of the Christ Community Church of Lake. In his younger years he also enjoyed bowling and traveling and camping out West and in Northern Michigan. Gary is survived by his loving wife Arma Zastrow and his son Kyle and wife Christina Zastrow, both of whom reside in Lake. Other survivors include his grandchildren Brandon Davis of Big Rapids and Nicholas Crawford of Lake, his sister Loree Recker of Harrison, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Shirley Zastrow. In keeping with Gary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in Gary’s honor will be held in the spring of 2026 at the Christ Community Church with the exact date and time yet to be determined. A graveside committal service will also be held with military honors at the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare in the fall of 2026 where Gary will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
