Freddie Lee Lawson

Freddie Lee Lawson, 89, of Farwell MI (formally of Detroit MI) passed away Friday December 4th 2015 at his home around 3 A. M. after a long battle with cancer. Fred was born August 20, 1926 in Forkland, AL to Susie C. Thompson. Fred was married to Margaret Ellen Watt on June 26 1971, in Detroit MI. Fred worked for the City of Detroit as the Control Room Operator (HVAC) for Cobo Hall, Joe Louis Arena, and Ford Auditorium. He also previously worked in security after a brief stint in the Navy. After retirement, Fred was an extremely active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Clare. He devoted countless hours to the ministry, education, and fellowship of his congregation as well as the community. He enjoyed helping his brothers and sisters with new construction projects that were being built. When Fred was not with his congregation, his joy was home, his yard, and his family. He thoroughly enjoyed spending his days mowing his acreage, raking leaves, creating home additions, and keeping his family in beautiful surroundings. Fred was a strong man, with a fantastic constitution, and his strength and vibrancy radiated to everyone he came in contact with. He was a light in the hearts of his family and community. He is considered by his family and friends to be the strongest, bravest man, of the highest reputation. Fred is survived by his wife Margaret, his sisters, Susie Mae Williamson and Irene Gavins, his daughters Gwendolyn Brown and Michelle McQueen, sons Charles (Ericka) Lawson, Freddie Lawson Jr., Dyrall (Michelle) Lawson, and Bryan (Tamara) Lawson, as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fred is preceded in death by his mother, Susie C. (Thompson) Coats, his brothers John Lawson, James Lawson, Clinton Coats, Roosevelt Coats, and his sister Dorothy Winn. There will be a Friends and Family hour on Friday December 11th at Stephenson-Wyman funeral home in Clare from 2-4pm and from 5-9pm. The memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday December 12th at the Clare Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. During his battle, Hospice (through MidMichigan Home Care) was instrumental in his physical care as well as the care mentally and emotionally of Fred and his family.
