Dorothy L. Thompson

Dorothy Lois (Allen) Thompson of Clare, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Medilodge of Frankenmuth Nursing Facility. Dorothy was born in Hatton Township, Clare County on August 19, 1921 daughter of the late Everette and Louise (Bauer) Allen. She was united in marriage to Lewis James (Jim) Thompson on July 12, 1942 in Clare. Jim predeceased her on February 21, 1983. Dorothy was an excellent wife and mother. She enjoyed socializing and helping her neighbors and friends. Mrs. Thompson was a sewing leader for 4-H in Clare county for several years and a life member of the Zenobia Chapter of the order of Eastern Stars. She enjoyed going to Houghton Lake and her passion was vacationing with daughter Elna and friend Deb and very good friend Cynthia Williams to watch Great Lake Freighters. Dorothy helped her good friend Constance Lockwood at her resort on Neebish Island. She had unstoppable energy and got the name “Grandma Butterfly” which stayed with her to her death. Surviving Mrs. Thompson is her daughter Elna Lynn Vert Thompson of Flint, Granddaughter Dorothy Dare Vert Hester of Flint, and Great Grandson Johnathan Vert of Flint, also surviving are very close friends, Deb Kwaiser of Flint/Houghton Lake, Melissa Kwaiser DeKalita of Crestview, Florida, very special friend Cynthia Williams of Durand, and Constance Lockwood of Houghton Lake/Neebish Island. Close family surviving Dorothy are special nephew and niece Melvin and Laura Thompson of Harrison, niece and nephew Jennifer and David Brittan of Clare, Maryln (Allen) Adams of Cincinnati, Ohio and nephew and niece Dennis and Donna Allen of Clare. She is predeceased by her brother, Delmar Allen and Sister Elna Allen and other aforementioned significant others. A memorial service will be held at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare at 2 P.M. on Friday, April 28, 2017 with Mr. Lawrence D. Wyman Sr. officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to H.A.T.S. (Humane Animal Treatment Society) of Isabella County or St. Mary’s Hospital Alumna Association of Saginaw.
