Betty Lou Bouchey

Betty L. Bouchey, age 93 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the Pioneer Golden Estate Assisted Living of Clare. On January 4, 1933, Betty was born the daughter Melvin “Arthur” and Edna (Huber) Funnell in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Betty was a lifelong Central Michigan resident and a member of the Weidman High School Class of 1951. On September 1, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Willis Bouchey and the pair remained beside each other every day for the next seventy-four years that followed. Betty worked for a brief time for Clare’s Holley Carburetor until Willis and she began operating their 80-acre dairy and hog farm south of Clare, where she not only tended to farm needs, but also that of her busy home. Betty was an avid baker, cook, reader, and was an accomplished dulcimer player. She also enjoyed camping in her younger years and wintering for 17 years in Ocala, Florida with Willis, birdwatching, and she never met a puzzle she couldn’t complete. Betty was an active member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Clare. She loved spending time with her family playing cards or dominoes and spoiling them with her delicious food and treats. Betty is survived by her loving husband Willis Bouchey, her four children Doug (Jane) Bouchey of St. Croix, Jean (Larry) Jackson, Judy (Scott) Hacker, and John Bouchey, all of whom reside in Clare and her grandchildren Marci (Ryan) Fritz, Jillian (Brent) Nixon, Shawn (Tracey) Jackson, Matthew (Kimberly) Jackson, Sara (Bryan) Kieffer, Serena (Tim) Bentley, and Kevin (Britani) Hacker. Other survivors include her thirteen great-grandchildren and her sisters Lois Funnell and Carol Matthews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Edna Funnell, her siblings Melvin Funnell, Jr. and Joyce Carter, and her infant daughters Marjorie and Marcy. A funeral service in honor of Betty will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Winningham officiating. Friends may visit the Bouchey family at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 A.M. to the time of service at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare.
