Andrew D. Young

Andrew (Andy) David Young, age 72 born March 27, 1951 to Phyllis (Thomas) and the late Wayne Young, passed away October 7, 2023 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Andy was born in Midland, Michigan. Andy graduated from Midland High School in 1969. He resided in Lake, Michigan with his wife until the time of his death. Andy married Sheyla (Dopp) Young on October 12, 1974 and together they raised three children. He worked at Johnson Steel Fabrication for many years where he made some great lifelong friends. In his younger years, he was avidly involved in MASA as an umpire for men’s and women’s leagues. Andy also enjoyed spending time outdoors. Some of his favorite past-times included deer hunting, ice fishing, making maple syrup, processing deer, tending to his food plots, and using his John Deere tractor both at home, making improvements at the Big Norway Lake Association, and to assist many friends with their projects. All of his grandchildren will forever have memories of riding with Papa on his John Deere tractor. Some of Andy’s greatest joy was experienced watching his children and grandchildren play sports and any other activities they enjoyed. He was known for his great sense of humor, giving many caregivers and close family a good laugh until the end. Andy is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Sheyla, as well and his three children, Christi (Corey) Lower, Michelle (Scott) Peil, Justin (Cali) Young. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren - Kelsi (Cole) Osmond, Kadin Jacobs, Julia and Alexis Beck, Allie and Andrew Young, Justin and Hayden Lower, Lincoln and Addison Peil; his mother - Phyllis Young; brother – Cleon (Gail) Young; sisters - Pat (Chuck) Bass, Ruth (Bob) Fahlsing, and Sharon Kruger; sisters-in-law - Kathleen Werth, Sherlyn Kerns, and Andrea Young; brothers-in-law - Robert (Theresa) Dopp, and Jeffrey (Yvette) Dopp; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends. Andy was predeceased by his father - Wayne Young, brother - Randy Young, and sister – Lenora .Jane Young, brothers-in-law - Rodney Kruger, and Robert Werth, and sister-in-law - Virginia Young. In accordance to his wishes, Andy has been cremated and no services are planned.
