John V. Manzullo
December 5, 1928 - August 23, 2021
John V. Manzullo, age 92 of Lake (formerly of Alma), passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2021 with family by his side. On December 5, 1928, John was born the son of Victor and Anna (Holport) Manzullo in Galesburg, MI. He was united in marriage to Lois Schaede in Alma College’s Dunning Memorial Chapel on June 25, 1949, and together they shared just over sixty-seven years of marriage until Lois’ passing in 2016. Shortly after his graduation from Alma High in 1947, John proudly served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War Era. Upon his return from his military service, John began his impressive 30-year career with the Consumer’s Power Company as a first generation electrical engineer. Seeking more of a change of pace than a true retirement, John left Consumer’s and decided to start Manzullo Heating and Cooling, an HVAC business that proudly owned and operated for twenty-five more years. When he wasn’t working, John loved woodworking, wood burning, and furniture making and in his younger years he liked to hunt and ski with family. He was a proud member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alma where he was an elder and deacon. Those that knew John well, knew that public service was important to him, having been a member of the Shriners and Elks and volunteering countless hours for the Highland Festival Committee, Gratiot Hospital, Big Brothers, and the GraCo Board of Directors. He was even the proud recipient of the Tartan Award in 2014. John is survived by his children Lynda (Ron) Farquharson of Lake, Joel (Marilyn) Manzullo of Bluffdale, UT., and Jack (Lisa) Manzullo of Saginaw, his daughter-in-law Karla Manzullo of Carson City, his ten grandchildren, and his seventeen great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife Lois Manzullo, his parents Victor and Anna Manzullo, his son James Manzullo, his great granddaughter Amya Farquharson, and his siblings Frank Manzullo, Helen Cook, and Paul Manzullo. In keeping with family wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in honor of John will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Alma at a date and time in the future. Memorial contributions in honor of John may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Alma or the Highland Festival Committee.
