George Curtis Post, 69, of Lake, Michigan passed away suddenly Thursday October 29, 2020. He was born December 13, 1950 to his parents George Wallace Post and Shirley Marie Hilyard. He was the oldest of his siblings, Helen (Gaffney) and Marvin. He parent's marriage dissolved; and George Wallace was remarried to Vaudrey (Ferguson) who brought her daughter Garnetta to the family; and they added 3 additional children Alice (Russell), Alan, and Rebecca Sue (Mullins); to where the family resided on their farm in Farwell. Shirley Marie had two more sons, James, and Shown Pullins, and remarried to Clyde Short of Virginia. George was married to Wanda Patricia Carnley and had four sons: Brian, Kevin, Jonathan and David, before divorcing. He then went on to marry his lifetime friend Vickie Sue (Gingery) Carr, also bringing her two sons Don and Todd into the family as well. George has continued to be Vickie's best friend and loving husband for 30 year. George attended Farwell Area Schools, graduating from Farwell High School in the Class of 1969. Outside of working on the family farm; George excelled in school and was beloved by his classmates to this day. He had many achievements in his activities including football, National Honor Society; Varsity Club, the newspaper and most notably was selected as one of the top students for the Class of '69 for excellence and skills in Band and Performance. George then went on to college to study Musical Education; but ultimately left school and enlisted in the Navy in 1971. He served for 23 years and rose to the rank of Commander. Throughout his career he served in various leadership roles including managing cooking services, logistics and financial services; and was stationed throughout the United States and the world. Upon Retiring he continued to build and retire again from careers in computer technologies, real estate appraisals; and in recent years began a business in gun repairs and sales. He also spent his retirement years doing the things he loved hunting, shooting and tinkering all while sharing his love and knowledge with his growing family. He was the go-to person for the immediate and extended families to help figure out solutions to life. "A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there; but a guiding light whose love shows us the way"- Unknown George was preceded in death by his parents, George/Vaudrey, and Shirley Marie/Clyde; his siblings, Helen, Garnetta, and Marvin; and his son Kevin. George is survived by his wife, Vickie; his siblings, Alice, Alan, Rebecca Sue, James and Shown; his sons, Brian, Don, Todd, Jonathan and David; 9 grandchildren, and 3 Great grandchildren. Visitation and Viewing with the family will be held Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 4-8pm and Monday, November 2, 2020 from 1-2pm at Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, 165 S. Hall St., Farwell, MI., 48622. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 2, 2020, at 2pm at Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with a military salute held after the services. Donations can be made in George's honor to the Clare County Veteran's Administration; 225 E. Main St., Harrison, MI 48625.
