Elton E. Marshall
June 1, 1926 - December 29, 2020
Elton E. Marshall, age 94 of Farwell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Coleman Fields Assisted Living Facility in Coleman, MI. On June 1, 1926, Elton was born the son of Thomas E. and Mary Belle (Brooks) Marshall in Vernon Township. He was united in marriage to Doris Stittsworth on November 13, 1948 in Clare, and the pair enjoyed almost fifty-three years of marriage together until Doris’ passing on October 20, 2001. Elton was a member of the Farwell High School Class of 1944. Within months of graduation, Elton was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served over seventy days of active combat overseas in the European Theater of WWII. Shortly upon his return to the U.S., Elton began his work career. He started working at the Sinclair gas station (later becoming an Arco and then a Sunoco station) in Farwell in 1948, and managed to purchase it as his own in 1951—continuing to operate it successfully until his retirement in 1986. When he wasn’t working, Elton could usually be found in some type of civic engagement, having served over fifty years on the Farwell village council, two of which as the village president; duties in which he took great care. In his later years he greatly enjoyed playing Euchre at the Moose Lodge, enjoying veteran activities, watching his cherished Detroit Tigers, and most importantly, playing his scratch-off lotto tickets while smoking a cigar. Elton is survived by his children Stevan (Cheryl) Marshall of Clare and Deanna (David) Irish of Rochester, MN. and his grandchildren Lindsey (Jeff) Simonis of Rochester Hills, MI., Lesley (Ryan) McLain of Klamath Falls, OR., Stephanie Aho of Rochester, MN., and Mark (Karla) Irish of Rochester, MN. Other survivors include his great-grandchildren Colin, Emersyn, Harper, Reed, Annie, Nico, Bobby, and Jack, his sisters Doris (Jerry) Burzyck of Saginaw and Linda (Keith) Clarke of Owosso, and many nieces and nephews. Elton was predeceased by his wife Doris Marshall, his parents Thomas and Mary Belle Marshall, his infant son Mark Douglas Marshall, and his siblings Raymond and Ephraim Marshall, Margie Border, and infant brother Archie Marshall, as well as special family friend Lucille Morey. A Celebration of Life in honor of Elton will take place on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 2 to 5 P.M. at the Clare Farwell American Legion Post 558 with Mr. Kelly Morley officiating. Memorial contributions in honor of Elton may be directed to the Clare-Farwell American Legion Post 558 or to the Farwell Senior Center. Online condolences may be shared at www.stephenson-wyman.com
