Elmer B. Gingery

February 22, 1925 - October 4, 2021

Elmer B. Gingery, age 96 of Clare, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at his daughter’s home in Lake. Elmer was born the son of the late Francis Bruce and Hattie (Warner) Gingery on February 22, 1925 in rural Gladwin County. He was a proud American who answered his Country’s call, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a fuel tanker guardsman stationed in the North Pacific. Elmer was united in marriage to Dorothy B. Spicer on October 17, 1947 in Clare, and together the pair shared just over sixty wonderful years of marriage until Dorothy’s passing on January 14, 2008. Upon returning to the area from his military service, Elmer began employment with Clare’s Johnston Elevator—little did he know it would turn into a proud twenty-two year career with the elevator family. Those that knew Elmer well will certainly tell you that he was a family first kind of guy that believed in the underdogs. His passions included tuning in to NASCAR and Indy Racing, tending to his prized vegetable and fruit garden, cooking, rock working and stone tumbling (often making beautiful jewelry), but most of all, he loved sharing his outdoor passions of hunting, fishing, and trapping with his grandchildren. Survivors include his children Darlene (Harry) Lewis, Vickie Post, Terry Gingery and Sandra (Bruce) Schrock; his siblings Robert Gingery and Karen Corwin; 11 grandchildren Darla, Alan , Kim, Don, Todd, Jon, David, Tanya, Tyson, David and Katelin; 16 great grandchildren Anna, Daniel, Brittany, Isaac, Deelana, Abby, Nathan, Joshuua, Curtis, Devin, Breanna, Fern, Afton, Bowen, Percy and Quincy as well as 5 great great grandchildren Elise, Emery, Avery, Easton and Charlee. Elmer was predeceased by his siblings Wilbur, Gerald, Dennis and Jean Haggart; a son-in-law George Post and a granddaughter Angela Schrock. Visitation and services will be held at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Services will begin on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11 A.M. led by Pastor Tim Fall; Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service. Burial will take place in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Clare County Veteran Affairs Office.
