David A. Gloss

David Gloss, age 86 of Clare, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024. David was born the son of Francis and Mary (Brown) Gloss on August 23, 1937, in Rosebush, Michigan. David served 5 years in the United States Air Force, being honorably discharged as a fighter pilot at the rank of Staff Sergeant. David attended Central Michigan University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Industrial Arts, and later earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics. While at CMU, David met his first wife, Karen (Horning) and they wed on August 12, 1961. David and Karen moved to Clare in 1963, where David lived until his passing. David taught at Clare High School from 1963 until his retirement in 1988. After Karen’s passing, David married Debra Musser on September 12, 2009. David enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as woodworking and metal working. David often helped neighbors and friends with equipment and facilities repairs. David was a farmer most of his life, having raised various crops and livestock. David is survived by his wife Debra, her daughters Kim Ward of Clare and Kay (Joey) Shull of South Boston, Virginia, his son Michael and his wife Laura (Koskela) of Houghton, grandsons Jordan Gloss of Houghton and Marcus Gloss of Buffalo, New York, his daughter Lisa and her husband Jeremy Lessman of Pullman, Washington, his sisters Shirley Gloss-Soler and Marilyn Peters, as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family. David was preceded in passing by his parents Francis and Mary, his sisters Barbara Spitsbergen, Virginia Breuer, Martha Anderson, and his first wife Karen. Funeral Services for David will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Clare United Methodist Church, 109 E. Seventh St., Clare, Mich., 48617. Friends are invited to meet with his family at the church on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of Services.
