Burtice M. Longton Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Burtice M. Longton, age 98 of Clare, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. On April 28, 1924, Burtice was born one of twelve children to August and Fanny (Buckley) Hamilton in Pikeville, Kentucky. In the mid-sixties Burtice from her childhood home in Kentucky to Flat Rock, MI. to be closer family. Shortly after settling in Flat Rock, Burtice began what would evolve into an impressive forty-year career as a real estate agent under the Horbeck Realty brokerage. After retiring from her real estate career around 2007, Burtice relocated one final time to Clare, again to be closer to her loved ones. Burtice was a devout Catholic and enjoyed cooking, reading, and adding to her cherished collection of Autumn Leaf Chinaware any chance she got. Burtice never really considered herself having entered true retirement, as she deemed herself one of Soaring Eagle Casino’s “Professional Slot Players”. However, those that truly knew Burtice, will tell you that her true passion in life was that of spending time with her treasured family. Burtice is survived by her six children Billie (Jack) LaRew of Clare, Joan Vida of Clare, C. Dan (Christine) Longton of Naples, FL., Christopher (Beth) Longton of Portage, MI., Dr. Wallace (Cecile) Longton of Boca Raton, FL., and Kenneth (Donna) Longton of Clare, her nineteen grandchildren, and her twenty-two great grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters JoAnn Ciacelli, Pat (Frank) Thomas, and Jenni (Stan) Banash. Burtice was preceded in death by her parents August and Fanny Hamilton, her brothers Arthur, Bud, Gus, and Ernie Hamilton, her sisters Pearl Stickly, Ruth Housley, Anne Lafayette, and Charlotte Tubbs, and her son-in-law Kenneth Vida. In keeping with Burtice’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date and her final place of rest will be the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare alongside her family members.
