Betty Jane Phillips
April 18, 1927 - September 5, 2021
Betty J. Phillips, age 94, of Lake Station, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. She was born the daughter of Julius and Sylvia (Jewett) Borst on April 18, 1927, in Flint, Michigan. Betty married Roy Phillips on June 3, 1945. She had worked as the school cook at Lake school, the State Home in Mt. Pleasant, and retired from Evart Products. She stayed very active to the end, volunteered at the Senior Center in Lake, often delivering meals to people who were younger than her. Betty was volunteer of the year for Clare County. Betty still worked on weekends with her granddaughter, Kim at her store, entertaining the customers with her stories. Betty was full of life, loved her family, remembered everyone’s birthday, was always smiling and never was at a loss for stories. Betty was famous for her knitting skills, delighting friends and family with her handmade sweaters. Betty is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Ron) Shilling of Weidman and Kathie Athey of Clio, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, her daughter & son in law, Sharon and Russ Graham, her son in law, John Athey and her granddaughter Amy Athey. It was Betty’s desire to be cremated after her passing, which has been honored. The family is planning a “Celebration of Her Life” in the future. Instead of flowers, Betty would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in her name. Her family was assisted by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Homes of Clare and Farwell. On-line guestbook at www.stephenson-wyman.com
