Alan G. Therman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alan Gene Therman, 88, of Clare, MI died on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland of natural causes surrounded by his family. He was born on August 26, 1932 to Irma (Brooks) and Walter Frederick Therman in Thompsonville, MI. His parents owned a small grocery store in Buckley, MI. Alan married Gertrude (Gert) Rau in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Together they had 5 boys – Roger, Thomas (Tom), James (Jim), Robert (Bob) and John (Jack). The family enjoyed playing basketball and baseball together in addition to swimming and boating at Higgins Lake. Alan was a police officer in Mt Pleasant, MI and later became an insurance claims adjuster with Citizens and ASU. With the help of his boys, he built a home in Clare, MI. Three of the boys went into the construction or general contracting business. Alan always enjoyed deer hunting and camping. He would take his fifth wheel camper out of state when needed to be near the customers when he was on catastrophe duty as a claim representative. In retirement, Alan enjoyed traveling and spending winters in south Texas where he had many friends. He later married Margaret Wolverton who also enjoyed camping, playing cards and winters in Texas. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret, and one grandchild. Surviving are his sons, Roger (XiuYing Zhuang) of Hickory, NC, Tom (Joanne) of Stanwood, MI, Jim of Sanford, MI, Bob (Lorie) of Graham, NC, and Jack (Karyn) of Normal, IL. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Clare Moose Lodge or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
