Thomas E. Jared

Thomas E. Jared, age 69 of Farwell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. On May 4, 1956, Tom was born the third of six children to Clarence and Rose “Elaine” (Grotto) Jared, in Flint, MI. Tom’s childhood and early adult years were spent in Davison, MI. He was a graduate of the Davison High School Class of 1974, but more important than his graduation Tom would argue, this was where he met his high school sweetheart Deborah Hinterman. On June 24, 1978, Tom and Deb were married and went on to grow businesses and a family together for the next forty-seven years. Tom's career began working for other people, but he soon realized that his dream was to be his own boss. Tom and Deb moved to Farwell in 1980 when they purchased a convenience store—which famously became known as the Farwell Trading Post. For forty-three years Tom and Deb ran the Trading Post and in that time they added a second convenience store and gas station West of town named Jared’s Express Mart, served and supplied thousands of patrons with hunting, fishing, and outdoor sporting equipment, and made countless cherished memories and friendships. When he wasn’t at one of his stores, Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors and pursuing his many hobbies including hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He was also a devout man of faith, and he made it a priority to share his talents and love of God through mentorship and speaking for many local philanthropic organizations. However, it was clear to those that knew Tom best, that he shined most brightly in his role as grandfather to his cherished twin grandsons. Tom is survived by his loving wife Deborah of Farwell, his daughter Bethany (Brad) Boyd of Rockford, MI., and his twin grandsons Asher and Rowan Boyd. Other survivors include his siblings Nan (Chuck) Johnson, Craig (Kim) Jared, Terri Dolan, Chris “Joe” (Kim) Jared, and John (Robin) Jared, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who considered him the “favorite uncle”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Rose Elaine Jared. In keeping with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Tom’s life will take place in mid-April 2026 at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church with the exact date and times yet to be determined. Memorial contributions in honor of Tom may be directed to either MyMichigan Home Care and Hospice, His Helping Hands, or the Community Church of Mt. Pleasant.
