Rubie Roberts

Rubie A. Roberts, ”G-Ma”, age 90 of Clare, (previously of Rock Falls, WI.), passed away peacefully on December 7, 2021 at her home. On June 18, 1931, Rubie was born one of three daughters to Richard “Curtis” and Wilma (Alexander) Taylor in Charleston, West Virginia. Not long after graduating from high school, a young man finishing his military service in West Virginia named George Roberts stole Rubie’s heart. The couple united in marriage on June 22, 1957 in George’s home state of Wisconsin and together the pair shared the blessing of five children and thirty-four wonderful years of marriage until the time of George’s passing in 1991. Anyone that knew Rubie well, knew of her love for children, and her twenty-year career as a childcare provider with Wisconsin’s Eau Claire Kinder Care and Eau Claire YMCA reflected that. Rubie was also a faithful member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church near her Wisconsin home. Rubie’s passions included, traveling to visit her sisters in Florida in her younger years, frequenting local thrift shops, yard sales, and going out to eat with her grandchildren, and most importantly feeding her appetite for reading and writing. Rubie is survived by her five children, Deborah (Brian) Gunderlock of FL., Wanda Roberts of MI., Cindi (Dave) Coon of WI., Jennifer ( the late Rich) Crews of WI., and Bill (Brenda) Roberts of WI. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Jessica (Paul), Winston (Nicole), Josh, Dustin, Elaine (Andy), Melissa, Mandi (Brad) Delen, and Jonah, her great-grandchildren, Ella, Gabby, MaKenzie, Corbin, Ruby, Kurt, Poppy, and Bradley, her sister, Mary Lou Taylor of FL., and five nieces, all of Florida. Rubie was preceded in death by her husband, George Roberts, her parents, Richard and Wilma Taylor, and her sister, Yvonne Bishop. In keeping with Rubie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in honor of Rubie will take place at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church of Mondovi, WI. in 2022 with a date and time yet to be determined. Rubie’s final place of rest will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery of Rock Falls, WI. with her husband George. Memorial contributions in honor of Rubie may be directed to the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
