Philip D. Cooper

Philip D. Cooper, age 84 of Clare, went to be with his Lord. He passed away at his home on Thursday, January 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. Philip was born 1 of 12 children to John and Leona (Foster) Cooper on December 6, 1940 in Avondale, Michigan. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, Carol (Johnson) Cooper on August 26, 1960 and together they shared sixty-four wonderful years of marriage and had 5 children together. They renewed their vows on their 48th wedding anniversary with the original Maid of Honor and Best Man that stood with them on their wedding day. Philip was a life-long member of the Colonville Bible Church for 84 years. He left knowing that he was truly loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his family and friends. Philip grew up working on the Barlow farm and the Bob Clute farm in Clare. After he was married, he worked at Holley Carburetor, until it closed. He then helped build the Clare Primary School. When the school was completed, he went to work for Purolator Inc. in Clare. His nightly route took him from Clare to Detroit and back, making deliveries along the way to hospitals, banks, and other places. He loved to write poems and several were published; he also wrote many songs. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cooper of Clare; daughter Kim Coulter of Clare; sons Tim (Robin) Cooper of Farwell, Jeff (Julie) Cooper of Harrison, and Craig Cooper of Clare; his brothers and sisters Calvin (Carol) Cooper, Clinton (Lucy) Cooper, Richard Cooper, Ken (Sharon) Cooper, Katherine (Harold) Peckins, and Jeanie (Lance) Sprague; a sister-in-law Nila Cooper; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Rebecca; siblings Ruth Funnell and husbands Raymond Tigner and Lew Funnell, Carl Cooper and his wife Vicki, Dale Cooper, sister-in-law Pat Cooper, sister Fay Salinas and husband Rudy, and his bother Norman Cooper. Visitation and services will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the time of services at 1 P.M. with Mr. T.J. Kistler and Pastor Justin Myer officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Colonville Bible Church.
