Patricia Ann Maurer

Patricia Ann Mauer, age 79 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the AdventHealth Hospital of Ocala, FL, surrounded by her family. On February 17, 1946, Pat was born the youngest of three children to Alba and Dorothy (Warn) Richardson in Lansing, MI. Pat’s childhood life was centered in Roscommon, MI, where she grew up and was a graduate of the Roscommon High School class of 1964. After graduating, Pat attended Jackson Community College where she met John “Jack” Maurer, and a short time later, the couple was married on November 5, 1966 in Concord, MI., and together they enjoyed the next fifty-eight years by each other’s side. In 1983, Pat and Jack moved to the Clare area following Jack’s work obligations, and once settled, Pat took a job as an editor for the Clare Couty Review. Eventually, Pat purchased the newspaper and managed its operation for eighteen years before retiring as the owner—although she never really retired as she continued to actively write a column for the paper up to the time of her passing. When Pat wasn’t writing, she loved reading, cooking, and painting with watercolor. She loved the outdoors, especially gardening both vegetables and flowers, but her greatest passion was that for making quilts for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and anyone else she thought might need one. Pat is survived by her loving husband Jack Maurer, her three children Don (Micki) Maurer, David Maurer, and Lisa (Terry) Thayer, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother Jim Richardson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents Alba and Dorothy Richardson, her brother Don Richardson, and her sister Dorothy Phillips. In keeping with Pat’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1 to 4 P.M. at the Clare VFW Post.
