Marvilene J. Battle

Marvilene J. (Miller) Battle, age 89 of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Clare, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. On March 31, 1931, Marvilene was born the youngest of nine siblings to Gilbert and Inez (Wing) Miller in Shepherd, MI. She was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Battle on October 21, 1951 in Eaton Rapids, and the pair enjoyed nearly sixty-two years of marriage until the time of Lloyd’s passing in September of 2013. Many will remember Marvilene’s long tenure as a physician’s assistant and bookkeeper in Clare for Dr. E.J. and Dr. J.R. Gershon at the Clare Clinic and later for Dr. Jennifer Kozar. After 35 years of service, she retired to enjoy time with her family. When Marvilene wasn’t working or tending her home, she could usually be found playing in an all-day Euchre tournament, taking a day trip, or attending an auction sale in seek of antique dishes. In her younger years, she loved to dance and snowmobile, and spend time at the lake. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Marvilene is survived by her daughters, Julie (Hugh) Lewis of Beaverton , Shelley (Robert) Kemmerling of Mt. Pleasant, and her son William (Tina Henry) Battle of Evart. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lloyd (Shannon) Lewis, Hugh (Darcy) Lewis, Shane (Denise) Lewis, Nolan Lewis, Lacey (Justin) Bailey, Jennifer (Brad) Willman, William R. (Kenzie) Battle, Hunter Battle, Patrick Kemmerling, and Bryan Kemmerling, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Thelma (Larry) Randle of Clare, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Battle, her parents Gilbert and Inez Miller, her brothers Ervin, Homer, and Arden Miller, her sisters Iola Woodman, Velma Moore, Ilene Brown, and Theo Peltonen, and an infant sister. A funeral visitation for Marvilene will take place on Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A private burial will take place later in the day at the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare. Memorial contributions in honor of Marvilene may be directed either towards MidMichigan Hospice or the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
