Lelah "Lee" Barrigar

Lelah “Lee” Marguerite Barrigar, passed away in her home in Clare on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the age of 88, surrounded by family. Lelah (Lee) Marguerite Cockerill Barrigar, was born August 19, 1931 in Port Huron Michigan to Vernon Robert and Nellie Moran Cockerill. Lee graduated from Memphis High School in 1949. Lee met the Love of her Life in 1950 and Lee was united in marriage to Frederick Cornelius Barrigar on June 16, 1951. Lee worked as a desk clerk at Lapeer County General Hospital for many years. She also worked as a clerk at LeFaves Drug store in Alpena for many years. Lee and Fred pulled their 5th wheel trailer to Arizona for the winter for many years and enjoyed their many friends while there. Lee learned the piano in her teens and then later took up the accordion and enjoyed playing with family which also played guitars, auto harp, tambourine and a great uncle that played the fiddle. Lee last enjoyed playing her son Fred’s accordion during a visit, Christmas of 2018, and fondly remembered a lot of the old songs. Lee was an exceptional artist, painter, quilter, and seamstress. All of her 6 children have her quilts and paintings displayed in their homes. Lee is predeceased by Fred, her loving husband of 65 years, parents Vernon and Nellie Cockerill, step father Howard Winn, sister Yvonne Eckhorn, and brothers Stanley and Robert Cockerill. Lee is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Winnie (Carl) Bryans, Pat (Gary) Standen, Gail (Mike) West, sons, Fred (Jan) Barrigar, Bob (Holly) Barrigar, Don (Jean) Barrigar. Together Lee and Fred have 22 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers Don (Donna) Cockerill and Tom and Bill Winn and also many nieces and nephews. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to North Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 2532 W. Cadillac Dr. Farwell, Mi 48622. Lee’s family also wishes to thank North Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their Loving care of our Mom. The family of Lelah Barrigar wishes to thank MidMichigan Home Care and Hospice for their Loving care of our Mother. Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
