Katie J. (Trainor) Larkins

Katie J. (Trainor) Larkins, age 72 of Rosebush, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025 at her home in Rosebush, MI surrounded by her loving family. On April 20, 1953, Katie was born one of five children to Jack and Eldonna (Carins) Trainor in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Rosebush was home for Katie’s childhood and early adulthood, and she was a proud graduate of Mt. Pleasant High’s Class of 1971. In 1972, Katie was united in marriage to Ron Doren in Mt. Pleasant. During her working years, Katie served as a dedicated personal aid and caregiver as well as a paraprofessional for the Cadillac Intermediate School District for eighteen years after moving there in 1987. In 1995, Katie married Don Larkins in Cadillac, MI., and together they enjoyed twenty-six years of marriage until the time of Don’s passing in 2021. Those that knew Katie well, knew that she was always on the move, seeking adventure; from skydiving, to ziplining, to skiing, Katie loved to be active and outdoors. She also had a strong passion for people, from card games with cherished family and friends, to caring for elderly in their homes and children in the schools, Katie lived to make meaningful connections with everyone she met. Katie is survived by her sons Jayson (Betsy) Doren, Mark (Beth) Doren, Scott (Anette) Doren, Tim (Maritz) Doren, Matt (Julie) Larkins, and Brett (Heather) Larkins and her nine grandchildren Connor, Emma, Dustin, Trevor, DJ, Aunnlea, Jennifer, Brett, Jr., and Keegan. Other survivors include her siblings Karen (Jay) Kleinhardt, Karla (Dan) Swanson, John (Lori) Trainor, and Kim (Bruce) Bailey, her sisters-in-law Sherie Gierman and Debbie Corby, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, and her fur baby Maggie. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Larkins, her parents Jack and Eldonna Trainor, and her mother-in-law Deloris Larkins. A celebration of Katie’s life will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. with Monsignor Francis Koper officiating. Friends may visit with Katie’s family at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. to the time of celebration at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Katie has requested memorial contributions in her honor to be directed toward the MyMichigan Home Care and Hospice in appreciation for the many loving hours of care they have provided Katie in her last months.
