Janet M. Huntoon

Janet M. Huntoon, age 77 of Lansing, formerly of Clare, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. On July 15, 1944, Janet was born the daughter of Walter and Ruth (England) Green in Flint, MI. Although she was born in Flint, Janet did not live there long, as she moved to the Clare area in her early childhood with her family where she lived through her school years and years where she raised a family of her own. Seeking a change of scenery in the 1980’s Janet moved to Las Vegas, NV, where an opportunity in the casino industry began and led to an impressive thirty-plus year career where at one point or another Janet worked about every single area on a given casino floor starting in the Nevada Palace Casino before serving much of her career at the Eastside Cannery Hotel and Casino. After her retirement, Janet moved back to Michigan to be closer to family and the place she always considered home. Janet was a huge NASCAR fan, especially Kyle Busch, and she was also passionate about her lighthouse and Elvis Presley collections. In her younger years, Janet loved to camp and have a bonfire any chance she could. She loved her cats “Momma Kitty” and “Jazzy”, but anyone that knew Janet well, knew that her family was what she cherished most. Janet is survived by her children Rebecca (Ryan) Kase of Lakeside, OR., Duane (Tammy Bass) Huntoon of Chandler, AZ., Rodney (Cathy) Huntoon of Grand Rapids, MI., Tonia (John) Gonyer of Lansing, and Rhonda (Jared) Edwards of Harrison, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters Sharon Green of Evart, Linda (John) VanBuskirk of Farwell, and many nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ruth Green, her son Frederick B. Huntoon, Jr., her grandson Rusty W. Grose, and her brothers Robert, Tom, and Morris Green. A celebration of Janet’s life will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. Friends may visit with the Huntoon family at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 A.M. to the time of service at 1:00 P.M.
