Janet L. Hicks

Janet Lou Hicks, age 85 of Farwell, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Pioneer Golden Estate in Clare. Janet was born the daughter of the late Howard M. and Emma L. (Cook) Everts on June 23, 1934 in Lansing. Janet was united in marriage to the love of her life, Norris C. Hicks on March 31, 1956, celebrating nearly 60 years of marriage until Norris’ death on February 7, 2016. Also preceding her in death is her brother Lawrence Everts of Traverse City and step grandson Jeremy. Janet earned her Registered Nurses degree from Saint Lawrence Nursing School; and worked at the Clare Hospital for 30 plus years as the Head Nurse and Supervisor of the Intensive Care Unit. She was a life-long member of the Clare United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Janet was an enthusiastic knitter, making blankets and sweaters for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved spending time with her entire family. She was very generous, kindhearted and befriended everyone she met. Janet enjoyed traveling with friends and family venturing to Hawaii, England, Sweden, Denmark, Nova Scotia, Norway, Finland, Florida, Arizona, California, and many more places. Janet especially loved taking her grandchildren on vacation to Walt Disney World where her enthusiasm made their adventures to the happiest place on earth truly magical! Survivors include her 5 children, Ralph of Iron Mountain, Steven (Sandy) of Clare, James (Ruanne) of Farwell, Lisa (Michael) Spoelstra of Olivet and Julia (Scott) Morgan of North Branch; sister Marjean (Everts) Torres of Charlotte, brother-in-law Rodger (April) of Clare and brother-in-law Flavious (Judy) of Farwell; 11 cherished grandchildren, Jodi, Brian, Sara, Clay, Eric, Sarah, Jaime, Marissa, Christopher, Hayden, Madison; and 5 adored great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Clare United Methodist Church with Pastor John Kasper officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the church from 1 P.M. until the time of service at 3 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Clare United Methodist Church.
