Janet H. Goudie

Janet H. Goudie, age 91 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Woodland Hospice House of Mt. Pleasant, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10,1935, one of five daughters to Burley and Flossie (Burton) Shaver in Clare, where she remained a lifelong resident. On November 26, 1955, Janet was united in marriage to Philip Goudie, Jr. at Dover Church and they were blessed to have celebrated 70 years of marriage. Janet worked outside the home at local Clare businesses including many years at the Mill End store where she especially enjoyed her time in the fabric department. She loved to sew clothing for herself, make decor for her home, and delighted in making beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. Janet also enjoyed traveling with Phil and their adventures included spending several winters in Florida and making memories with friends while camping in Michigan. Janet was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clare for 65 years where her laugh and smile will be remembered by all. She served in many ways throughout the years but found true joy in serving the Lord through music. She always had a song in her heart and ministered to others as a member of the choir, and by often singing solos for church services and special occasions. Janet is survived by her husband Phil Goudie of Clare, her son Greg (Darla) Goudie of Hamilton, MI., and her granddaughters Krista (Andrew) Honeycutt of Hudsonville, MI. and Leah (Luke) Thompson of Wyoming, MI. She was Great Grandma to three grandsons, Andrew, Benjamin, and Colton, and would have loved two great granddaughters on the way. She is also survived by her dear sister Gayle Gillis-White of Clare, and several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Burley and Flossie Shaver and her sisters Virginia Brandt, Monie Wood, and Donna Smith. A funeral service in honor of Janet will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Clare at 11:00 A.M. with Pastors Doug Blackwell and Jeremiah Dewey officiating. Burial services will follow in the Vernon Township Cemetery. Times of visitation will be held at the church on Friday the 26th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and again on Saturday the 27th from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
