Jack R. Marks

Jack Richard Marks, 89, of Lake, Michigan passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Comfort Care Assisted Living Facility from a short-term illness. He was born on October 9, 1936, in Warren, Michigan to the late Richard Raymond and Evelyn (Rudel) Marks. He was one of three children raised in Warren and later in Sterling Heights, Michigan. His sisters are Beverly (Marks) Shooltz (deceased) and Elaine Marks. Jack joined the US Navy in 1956 and serviced proudly for 22 years aboard 2 Destroyers and a Presidential Communications ship. Some of his shore duty was in Washington DC, Maryland, Norfork Virginia, Newfoundland (Canada), Athens Greece, and Glenview Naval Air Station in Illinois. After the Navy, Jack worked at odd jobs around the Clare area. Jack was a Life Member of the VFW Post 5738 in Clare, MI, and a Charter/Life Member of the American Legion Post 558 in Farwell, MI. He also served his community on the Honor Guard at Veterans’ Funerals. He married his first wife Betty Kate (Walker) Marks on September 12, 1959, and spent 47 years with her until her death on June 20, 2007. Jack later married Kathleen (Jaynes) on October 1, 2011 and was with her until his death. They liked to go on Cruises to the Caribbean and visit the Islands. Jack was predeceased by his Parents, Richard and Evelyn Marks; his son, Daniel; his first wife, Betty Kate (Walker) Marks; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly (Marks) and Edward Shooltz; his nephew, Kevin Shooltz; his niece’s husband, William Hair; and his granddaughters, Lacey Marie Marks and Julie Marks. Jack is survived by his sister, Elaine Marks (Sterling Heights); his sons, Robert and Karen Marks (Sanford); his grandchildren, Richard Marks (Shelly Kuhn) (Midland) and Shawn Marks (Sanford); his great granddaughter, Addison (Midland); Brian and Tracy (Baker) Marks (Allegan); his grandchildren, Emily Marks and Jack W. Marks; his step daughter, Donna (William) McNeill; his nephew, Duane (Kelly) Shooltz (Warren); his nieces, Terri (Shooltz) Hair (Arizona) and Jacquelyn (Shooltz) Shaw (Arizona); and his great nieces, Megan Shaw, Holly and Alvin (Sprowly), and Katie Shaw. Visitation For Jack will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home at 165 South Hall Street in Farwell, MI 48622, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The service will start at 1:00 PM. Led by Pastor Brian Comiskey. After the service, interment will take place at the Surrey Township Cemetery 101 W. Ludington Dr., Farwell, MI 48622.
