Elaine W. Green

Elaine W. Green, age 101 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility of Mt. Pleasant. On May 13, 1923, Elaine was born one of three daughters to Timothy and Grace (Johnson) Frey in Union Furnace, Ohio. In her early childhood, Elaine’s family moved to the Clare area following her father’s oilfield business, where Elaine would continue to live, graduate from Clare High School in 1941, and meet the love of her life Cleland “Jake” Green. On April 1, 1942, Elaine and Jake were married in Clare, and together enjoyed fifty-seven years together until the time of Jake’s passing in August of 1999. During her working years, Elaine served secretarially for various university’s and private schools as the family followed Jake’s career around the country, including Central Michigan University and Harpeth Hall of Nashville before returning to Clare in the early ‘90s to enjoy retirement. Elaine was an avid Bible reader and also an active member of the Clare United Methodist Church. She enjoyed decorating her home and always enjoyed the companionship of the dogs she had throughout her life (Porsha, Reba, Morgan, and Perry). However, those that were closest to Elaine, and half of Clare and Isabella County for that matter, knew that Elaine’s cooking and baking abilities were second to none. Elaine is survived by her daughter Jackie (Randy) House of Mt. Pleasant, her daughter-in-law Linda Green of Scottsdale, AZ., and her four grandchildren Brenden (Jill) Green of Redlands, CA., Chad (Nicole) House of Mt. Pleasant, Amie (Skip) Hofmann of Scottsdale, AZ., and Timothy House of Novi, MI. Elaine’s other survivors include her nine great-grandchildren Jake, Abbey, Madison, Kyler, Keller, Katie, Sawyer, Cooper, and Ava, many nieces and nephews, and her fur baby Porsha. Elaine loved deeply and unconditionally and that included her extended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she thought of as her own. Kim (Mike), Kerri (Jeff), Nicki (Ryan), Katie (Shannon), Kaleb (Carrie), Adam (Chelsea), Sara Jane (Caleb) and their 15 children. Also dear to her heart, her weekly jack of all trades helper Shelly Carrier Whitney and CENA soon to be nurse Damian Maczynski who lovingly cared for her the last 8 months she was in the medical care facility. She was preceded in death by her husband Cleland “Jake” Green, her son Timothy Green, her sisters Phyllis (Orris) Corey and Jacqueline (Bob) Ackerman, and her brothers-in-law Leonel (Juanita) Green and K.C. (Betty) Green. A funeral service in honor of Elaine will take place on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the Clare United Methodist Church with pastors Lane Van and Dennis Bromley officiating. Burial will follow services in the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare. Family and friends may visit the Green family on Thursday the 25th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in honor of Elaine may be directed to either the Clare United Methodist Church, or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
