Bonnie Lea McKenna

Bonnie Lea McKenna peacefully moved to her heavenly home on January 3, 2024. Her children were by her side as she departed her earthly shell to go meet Jesus face to face. The night before she passed away Bonnie pondered what she would do first when she arrived in the presence of her Savior, Jesus. She said, “Will I fall at His feet or will I hug Him?” This beautiful memory has been imprinted on the hearts of her loved ones and brings them great comfort. Bonnie was born in Ithaca, Michigan on June 8, 1938 to her parents Levi and Winona Parks. When she was 17 she married George E. Hunt and over 32 years they bore and raised 5 children. In 1978 Bonnie pursued her dream to become a nurse. She worked various departments throughout her career including ER, Surgery, Geriatrics, and completed her career by retirement from the Michigan Department of Corrections. In October of 1988 Bonnie married Eugene McKenna. They were happily married for 35 years when Eugene passed away in October of 2023. One week after Eugene’s funeral Bonnie learned her diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Her character and temperament can best be shown from the time her diagnosis came until the time of her passing into Heaven. Bonnie had every right to cry, be mad, or even fall into a deep depression after learning of her illness, but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given to express her love and care for others. Neither hard times or cancer would rob her of who she was in Christ! She had a quiet strength she drew from sitting at Jesus feet, she was not a complainer and always looked forward to a better future. Bonnie McKenna’s children, will always remember her as a selfless, devoted, and joyful mother and grandmother. Her children will remember her love as unconditional and sacrificial. She always had a smile and a warm hug to greet them when they would come to visit, as well as a home cooked meal complete with fresh bread and dessert. Nothing brought her more joy than to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bonnie loved cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting, knitting, singing, taking care of her husband Eugene, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends, her church family. What Bonnie loved most was her time spent in Gods Word. She loved studying, reading, and discussing the truths she’d discover. She was ever calm and serene in her faith. Bonnie McKenna was a woman always gracious until God called her home to Heaven. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Bonnie is survived by her 5 children: Edward Hunt (Lilia), Bozena Young (Bruce), William Hunt (Edie), Maggie McVannel (Jeff) and Robert Hunt (Elli); 13 Grandchildren and 36 Great-Grandchildren; sister Judith Doerr, brother Jack Parks (Susan) and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church of Lake, Michigan at 6007 Mannsiding Road, Lake, Michigan 48632 on Saturday January 20, 2024 at 11:45 A.M.
