Bonita "Bonnie" Smith

Bonita L. “Bonnie” Smith, age 68 of Clare, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Toni and Trish House of Auburn, MI. On August 6, 1956, Bonnie was born the daughter of Charles and Rita (Messman) Smith in Salem, OR. Shortly after she was born, Bonnie’s family moved to Coleman, MI., where she went on to graduate from Coleman High School, and would remain a Central Michigan resident for the rest of her life. She was united in marriage to Jeffrey Smith on August 17, 1973, in Loomis, MI. and together they shared fifty-one years of marriage. For twenty-plus years, Bonnie worked for the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, where she managed the food and beverage operations. Her interests included reading, crocheting, competing in bowling and golfing leagues in her younger years, and taking southern trips to Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida with her husband Jeff. However, those that knew Bonnie best will tell you that she was happiest when she was spending time with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie is survived by her husband Jeffrey Smith of Clare, her three daughters Melissa (Jay) Harnick, Michelle (Corey) Rodabaugh, and Marlana (Josh) Richards, all of whom reside in Clare, and her grandchildren Jeffrey, Austin, Gage, Jocy, Jesse, and Landon. Other survivors include her three great-grandchildren Baker, Lakelyn, and Sadie, her siblings Dan (Joni) Smith, Gary (Donna) Smith, Ken Smith, and Rhonda (Steve) Budd, her aunt Joyce (John) Logan, and many nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Rita Smith and her son Michael Smith. A memorial service in honor of Bonnie will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Brown Corners United Brethren Church of Clare, with Pastor Jeremiah Ketchum officiating. Friends may visit the Smith family at the church on Wednesday the 5th from noon until the time of service at 1:00 P.M., and a luncheon will follow. Memorial contributions in honor of Bonnie may be directed to either her family, or to the Toni and Trish House of Auburn.
