Betty Jo Finch

Betty Jo Finch (Miller), age 81 of Flint Twp., received her wings on September 22, 2025 after a long and brave battle against kidney disease. Betty was born August 19. 1944 in Mt. Pleasant, the eldest daughter of Dale and Joy (Burdett) Miller. The family relocated to Clare where Betty remained until graduating from Clare High School, where she was a member of the Marching Band. On October 19, 1962 Betty married the one love of her life George Merritt Finch Jr. and would remain married to him for the next 58 years. Betty is survived by 4 children, Kelly (Gina) Finch of Scottsdale AZ., Steven (Ricci) Finch of Flint Twp., Scott Finch of Lapeer and Karry (R.S.) Wynn of Flint; 7 grandchildren Christopher (Danielle) Gonzales of VA., Jesika (Blake) Rolland of Burton, Tyler (Maria) Finch of Mt. Morris, Gibson (Carly) Finch of Lapeer and Ashlie, Angelica and Anthony all of Flint; as well as several great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by 2 sisters Pam (Jack) Eaton of MI. and Peg (John) Kukulka of Clare. Betty was also an extended mother and grandmother to Tanya and Nicole Carrier. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years George Merritt Finch Jr. and her parents Dale and Joy Miller. As a child growing up in Clare, Betty was an avid horse enthusiast and continued to have a soft place in her heart for horses throughout adulthood, making sure to attend rodeo events as often as she could, and always cheering for the horses. One of her great escapes in life was watching the old cowboy shows on TV like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Rawhide and The Rifleman, all of which she would watch for hours, only broken up by a few M.A.S.H. episodes. Betty spent 20 plus years working for the Carman School District before retiring. She was very active in all the booster programs at the school and made sure to attend all of her children's sporting events, as well as her grandchildren's sporting events. Betty was also a great supporter of all the Detroit professional sports teams, especially the Lions and took great pride and pleasure in their resurgence of late. Betty also spent years playing in local recreational volleyball leagues. While in high school in Clare, Betty was a member of the Marching Band, as well as the Concert Band and was a percussionist. Betty was famous for last second cookouts, making sure the entire neighborhood was invited, and that everyone ate even the occasional stranger that happened to be passing by. Betty will be sadly missed by everyone, and her infectious smile, graciousness and kindness will carry on forever. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until the time of services at 11 A.M. led by Pastor Connie Bongard. Burial will follow in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.
