Robert G. Tubbs

Robert “Bob” (Louie) G. Tubbs, age 78 of Lake, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the North Woods Nursing Center of Farwell. Bob was born the son of Bernard and Kathryn (Hallberg) Tubbs on January 30, 1939. On April 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Helen Dixon, his wife of forty-nine years. Bob worked at Dow Chemical until he suffered a traumatic injury. Once he recovered, Bob being a entrepreneur at heart, owned and operated a Bay gas station in Clare, and Tubbs Grocery Store in Lake Station, until he chose to retire in 1986. Bob graduated from Clare High School in 1957, in school he excelled academically, also at Basketball, Football, and Track. He attended Ferris State University and Central Michigan University as well. His true passions included trips to the casino, watching Detroit Tiger baseball, Detroit Lions, MSU sports, fishing, and skiing when he was able. Bob, in his youth would enjoy spending summers on his grandpa’s farm in Freesoil, MI. He always had a smile, was a jokester, and had a bubbling personality. Bob attended Clare Congregational Church in his youth, and later Clare then Farwell United Methodist Church, and was very active at the Lake Senior Dining Center. Bob is survived by his wife Helen, his son Kevin (Jennifer) Tubbs, and his grandchildren Amanda, Wyatt, Sadie Tubbs and Madison McClenathen, all of Lake. He is also survived by his great-grandson Jay Crawford of Lake, his sister Barb Hinton of Lake, his niece Julie (Jon) Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and his great nieces Jessi and Kate Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Kathryn (Hallberg) Tubbs. A funeral service in honor of Bob will take place at the Farwell Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Fall officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, July 13 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Burial will take place in the Garfield Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor of Bob are recommended to the Friends of Garfield Township Parks.
